As one of Australia’s premier junior rugby clubs, it’s important for MJRC to continually enhance the experience for our players. In the 2023 season, we’ll be offering additional coaching support for our volunteer parent coaches, and maximise the development of our players. We’ve outlined some of the updates below. PLEASE NOTE that players must be registered prior to participating in development programs.
U8 and U9 – Confidence in Tackle and Rugby Skills Development
Led by Nick Bousie, the club will be holding an 8-week program to teach MJRC players about safe tackling and skills development. This program was run earlier this year and is a great way to introduce the players to contact. U8 will gain confidence in the transition to tackle, and U9 will continue their journey in tackle safety and skill development
- Confidence in Tackle held each Thursday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Rawson Oval.

It’s a very important pathway to the first year of graded teams. We have also added a 4-week Confidence in Tackle Program.

6 and U7 – Touch Rugby Fundamentals
Nick Bousie will continue to focus on U6 up to, and including, U10. Jono Bowman (Head of Mini’s coaching on the MJRC committee) will be working with Nick for these age groups. Nick will take U6 each week at training to help parents get used to coaching and managing teams as they learn to play touch rugby (no tackling, quality passing, running to space). Parents will continue to coach and manage the kids on weekend games. Nick will also support the U7 coaches during their weekday training to help evolve their catch-pass skills, running into space and overall game awareness. U6 and U7 training will commence in March.
